Three scholarships are available to
overseas applicants starting a full-time PhD research degree at Edinburgh
College of Art (ECA) in September 2015. Each scholarship covers the overseas
rate of tuition fee. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships are
awarded for three years. The application deadline is 20 March 2015.

Successful applicants will have a
research interest aligning with, or cutting across, the research focus areas in
ECA’s five Schools:
-School of Art: Contemporary Art
Practice, The Educational Turn; Art writing, Criticism & Publishing; Art
& Anthropology; Animism; Hypotechnology; Cultural Landscapes; Materiality.
-School of Design: Body and Space;
Design and Digital Technologies; Materiality and Making; Mechanics of
Narrative; Design Cultures; and Contemporary Film Theory and Practice.
-ESALA (Architecture and Landscape
Architecture): Architectural and Urban Design; Cultural Studies in
Architecture; Digital Media; History, Theory and Conservation of Architecture
and Urbanism; Landscape Architecture; Material Science and Technology; and
Sustainability.
-History of Art: Western visual
culture from c.400 to 2014; Islamic art; Chinese art.
-Reid School of Music: Acoustics
and Physical Modelling; Composition (instrumental/algorithmic
/computer/electronic); Community Music; Improvisation, Musical Instrument
Research; Music for Screen; Musicology (including Popular Music); Music
Psychology.

Eligibility:-
Applicants must be liable to pay
tuition fees at the rate applicable to overseas full-time PhD students.
-If you wish to commence a PhD
programme of study in academic year 2015-2016, you must ensure that you have
fully submitted your PhD study application, using the University of Edinburgh’s
online system, before 6 March 2015.
-Scholarship applications from
prospective students which are not supported by a fully completed study
application (including references) will be set aside and not considered for
funding.

Notification:
A Selection Committee will meet
shortly after 20 March 2015 to review the scholarship applications. All
applicants will be informed of the outcome in May 2015, and the recipients will
be announced on the ECA website at the start of the 2015-2016 academic year.
How to Apply:
The mode of applying is online. To
apply for a scholarship you must first apply for admission for an eligible
programme of study at the University of Edinburgh. Once you have applied for
admission you will receive your University Username (UUN). Your UUN is the letter
‘s’ followed by your matriculation number; for example, s0987654. Eligible
students should complete an online scholarship application before the
application deadline of 20 March 2015.
