Borlaug Global Research Alliance Fellowships in USA, 2015

Applications are invited for research fellowships available for the applicants of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines and Vietnam. Applicants must be in the early or middle stage of their career, with at least two years of practical experience. Fellows will work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S. university for up to 12 weeks on climate change mitigation research. The application deadline is 31st October 2014.

-Identify agricultural management strategies leading to reduced net greenhouse gas emissions per unit of commodity produced in agronomic (including rice), horticultural, or agro-forestry crop systems

-Develop models for application of experimental data in decision support tools for different crop or agro-forestry systems in different countries

Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity in Livestock Production Systems

-Identify agricultural management strategies leading to reduced net greenhouse gas emissions per unit of commodity produced in grazing or confined animal production systems

-Develop models for application of experimental data in decision support tools for livestock production systems in different countries

Developing Databases and Strategies for Synthesis, Integration and Decision Support to Manage Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems

-Develop databases assembled from different research teams working on identifying methods to reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration

-Develop process models as a foundation for projecting emissions and sequestration in different agricultural systems and for decision support tools

Eligibility: To be considered for the Borlaug Fellowship Program, candidates must:

-Be citizens of an eligible country

-Be fluent in English

-Have completed a Master’s or higher degree

-Demonstrate their intention to continue working in their home country after completing the fellowship

Scholarship Description: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2015 Borlaug Global Research Alliance Fellowships. Fellows will be selected from 12 countries that are members of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases. Fellows will work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S. university for up to 12 weeks on climate change mitigation research. The U.S. mentor will later visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration.

Developing Country Eye Researcher Travel Fellowships, 2015

ARVO Foundation for Eye Research in partnership with the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology is offering research travel fellowships for developing countries applicants. These fellowships are to pursue a career in teaching and research in any area of eye and vision research, whether basic or clinical research in applicants’ home countries. Fellowship covers transportation, lodging and per diem, in addition to registration for the ARVO Annual Meeting and complimentary ARVO membership for one year. Complete application should be emailed by December 1, 2014.

Study Subject(s): The candidate can be interested in any area of eye and vision research, whether basic or clinical research, epidemiology, public health, infectious diseases, genetics or a particular subspecialty.

Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue a career in teaching and research.

-Graduate students in scientific areas with an interest in entering basic vision research or residents in ophthalmology who are interested in academic careers as clinician-scientists are also eligible.

-Candidates cannot be studying or training outside of his/her home country at the time of his/her recommendation for the award. The candidate must be established in his/her home country and currently employed or practicing in a field related to eye and vision research.

-ARVO Members and non-members are eligible. The candidate is not expected to present at his or her initial meeting.

Scholarship Description: 

ARVO Foundation for Eye Research has partnered with the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology to develop a fellowship that brings investigators from developing countries to the ARVO Annual Meeting and introduces them to the latest trends and developments in eye and vision research. The Fellowship began in 2008 and has since then brought 87 researchers from 34 different countries.

What does it cover? Researchers selected for participation receive an award that covers transportation, lodging and per diem, in addition to registration for the ARVO Annual Meeting and complimentary ARVO membership for one year. To enhance the experience, ARVO members are selected to serve as “mentors” during and after the ARVO Annual Meeting. Along with assistance from the mentors, a welcome breakfast is held to aid the recipients in navigating the Annual Meeting and gives them the opportunity to meet and network with others involved with this fellowship. A breakfast is also held on the final day of the Annual Meeting in order for recipients and mentors to share their experiences.
